Who should attend: Existing users of the software who wish to learn tips and tricks to improve the design of their documentation.

Pre-requisites: The user must be familiar with the basic features of Microsoft Word. This knowledge can be gained either by attendance on an Introductory level course, or by work experience.

Course Objectives: This one day course will enable the student to critically analyse document design and create professional looking documents using Microsoft Word.

Elements of Design. In this session we will critically analyse and discuss what considerations need to be made when designing a document. We will compare different types of documents and see where our design elements can be applied.

Page Setup: Choosing the most appropriate paper size, orientation and paper for the document .
Creating simple headers and footers.

Tables: Inserting and editing tables. Amending borders and shading and changing text direction Resizing columns and rows. Using tables for page design.

Graphics: Inserting and modifying graphics within a document. Positioning images within text and tables.

Working with Text: Understanding the difference between Serif and Sans Serif Fonts. Applying font formatting to text, aligning text. Applying borders and shading to text.

Working with Colour: Using colour to enhance the appearance of text and tables.
